Rowley (4-4-2) Bennett;Upton(c),Hadley, Inett, Morson;Massey, Warr, O'Driscoll, Hanson; Collins, MacDougal

Match Report: Poor showing in terms of players. Only 7 regular Rowley players. Bennett in goal (with sciatica). Highlights :- the return of Oz, good game by Oz, and good to see him back in a Rowley shirt. Performance: Not so good, too many long balls and players tired quickly. But we were playing a well organised side. Former players Stu Harvey and Stu Lester coming back to haunt us, although neither scored both performed well.
Man of the Match: Dave Morson

Rowley (3-5-2) then (4-4-1) Cooper (O'Driscoll); Hanson, Hadley(c), Rowe; Darby, Warr, Southall, Harvey, Staien; P.Widdecombe, J.Widdecombe

Match Report: For Rowley the first game of the season was a case of triumph and disasters. Conceding a goal early on to the always dangerous CARTWRIGHT, Rowley lost HANSON effectively to concussion and goalkeeper COOPER to serious back injury. ROWE went in goal and saved a series of one-on-ones, but could do nothing to stop CARTWRIGHT'S second.
PLaying with the slope second half, Rowley had more of the play, although Walsall looked dangerous on the break. Rowley stormed back into the game in a frantic ten minutes with Jon WIDDECOMBE'S excellent header and John WARR'S subtle flick. WARR was then dismissed for persistant misconduct. Martin BRADBURY put Walsall ahead from an accurate free-kick ten minutes from time. Mark SOUTHALL having won a penalty, had the agony of seeing it saved. Walsall had a player dismissed following the penalty in what was certainly not a violent or bad-tempered game [REPORTED BY PETER BENNETT]
Man of the Match: John Warr
